The Problem with Bras

For some women they pinch, they dig in, and they restrict. For others, they cover pathetically without supporting or enhancing at all. The mainstream media may rail against the idea of corsetry, but bras are at least as maddening as corsets ever were.

What's the real problem, and what can you can do about it?

Another long-awaited perk for helping us get back on our feet: I'm delighted to introduce the Foundations and Wardrobe Reading List!

Now you will be able to find your favourite Foundations and Wardrobe articles more quickly and easily than ever. Save articles to help you with a project, or as a list of references to help you learn a technique - and unlike your browser bookmarks, when the site gets overloaded with new content and we re-organise things, these links won't break.

A month ago I posted a call for help, and you answered. In just four weeks, we have jumped from 508 to 720 members - I think we are going to make it!

There's still more to do - we still need help to be able to move forward, keep improving and not grow stagnant. But there's time for that - and in the meantime, we're preparing a very special treat as a big "thank you" from us.

Do you think we're delivering on the potential that Joann foresaw in our early days?

On the Internet, free stuff has ads, paid stuff does not. Right?

I think this is short-sighted, and here's why.

You have been wonderful over the past four days, sharing, commenting, recruiting, sending messages of support, and of course signing up. We have jumped from 508 to 601 members - thank you! - but we still have a long way to go to the 750 members we need to survive, and the 1000 we need to thrive.

Many of you have also kindly offered suggestions. Here, I'd like to answer some of the most popular ideas we hear, and tell you how you can help the most.

Every single Saturday, without fail, come Christmas, come vacations, Easter, weddings, funerals or illness, we always publish a 2000-3000 word in-depth article at each website, with 25 or so images. That’s no quick tutorial on slapping something basic together. It’s nitty gritty, the stuff you really need to know to create great, professional historical costume, corsets, bras, and lingerie, in detail. How does it happen? Who's behind all that?

Foundations Revealed and Your Wardrobe Unlock’d have, at present, about eight weeks left to live. We are in trouble, and we need your help to survive.

Over the next few days, I’m going to release three articles that tell the story of both sites, what they are, what they do, the effect they have and what they could still go on to do, including the behind-the-scenes details of how the sites actually work – I think you'll be surprised at how we make the magic happen every week.

And then, if I may, I’m going to ask for help from both members and non-members to get us back on our feet. I’ll leave it up to you to consider the evidence and decide whether to answer that call.
