I chose War and Peace as the main concept for creating this corset.
People are constantly at war with each other over various issues such as race, religion, and borders.
The intricate yet complicated parts of this corset represent the world. My hope, depicted in this corset, is to overcome the odds for a better tomorrow.
The right hand side, adorned with a bouquet of white roses, symbolizes peace. The left hand side, studded with long spikes, represents hostility and strife.
I added another dimension to this corset by overlapping a number of different materials. Techniques from Japanese origami were a major inspiration for this design. The three-dimensional effect was achieved with the use of a compass and a design focused on the geometry of triangles and circles. The beauty and complexity of geometry was another theme I wanted to convey.
I decided to depart from tradition by using materials with a futuristic quality to match the design and concept of my corset. Aesthetic improvements were made on the lacing by creating two rows of eyelets on either side of the corset, alternately laced up with two separate strings. Black lace and ruffles were added underneath the silver vinyl arm piece on the right to balance out the aggressive counterpart which is studded and spiked.
One of the most important aspects of this design is the breast pocket where a bouquet of flowers can be placed. The bouquet to the mind always.
