TOPIC: DMU

DMU 6 months 3 days ago #795

Hi again Amanda,
Yes, I was a student at DMU (or as my Word spell check corrects it to - the “dump”).
Your pic looks very familiar. Did you frequent Level One? I worked there Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights behind the bar, I may have served you with an intoxicating beverage, Snakebite anyone?. I was the mature balding bar tender.
I left the course half way through year two, amongst other things I had had enough of Dee Parker (didn’t have a clue and could not pattern draft to save her life) and the dragon lady ( that’s being insulting to dragons) Gillian (I think I know it all) Proctor.
I complained about the university and took the case to the office of the independent adjudicator in London who found in my favour and told DMU to pay me £1500 in compensation.
Anyway, Dave Morris was made redundant from the university but he is still in the business, I sometimes do freelance design / pattern drafting work for him. I have written articles for his industry magazine Intimate Apparel Journal, it’s on line.
We may also be undertaking a research project for an American company looking at sports bras, can’t say to much at the moment, trade secretes and all that.
Back to your original thoughts on grading, yes the 50mm grading starts to go “out the window” in the larger sizes so you have to look at “asymmetric grading” of the cups. Have a look at my article on plus size bras / Omega shaped breasts, it may tie in with the work you have done.
Talking about work, have you succeeded in getting your foot in the door of the underwear business? It would be interesting to find out how many contour fashion students have made it to their “dream job” and what their experience was / is like. I know I have, just put my name into a search engine on line, that’s Mark Garbarczyk.
Corset Hugs
Mark

PS. Did you get to see my attempt at the Triumph competition, the bra / long leg high waist shaper with the wire frames monstrosity that was in Mr Morris room at DMU?
