Hi everyone

I have a fellow Bellydancer who suffered a back injury many years ago and it flares up from time to time, most recently, this week which has incapacitated her.

I have read about dance corsets but I am wondering what to use for boning. Should I used solid plastic boning, Rigelene with its many little bones or I have seen another 'squiggly' plastic boning that I saw at a medical corset supplier.

Thanks
Kayla

If you can get all three easily I would suggest getting a small sample of each and seeing what you think is most appropriate, or which your client prefers the feel of :)

Is this a product that is generally available, or is it more an idea that you've heard of but never actually encountered? If it's the first, see if you can get ahold of one to look at - see how pliable the boning is, see how firm or stretchy the fabric is, that sort of thing. If it's not really a standardized thing, you're going to have to take a look at your friend's needs - for support, mobility, etc - and try to figure out what materials will provide.

I know I am chiming in a bit late.

As a belly dancer myself and one who has made a corset with Rigelene in the past as well. I feel that I should offer my experience with it. The plastic did not hold up and bent at my waist and ended up biting me terribly. The corset started out looking and fitting beautifully and my back (that was injured in a fall from a horse) was very happy for several hours until the plastic boning gave out. I would strongly suggest steel spiral boning. It supports well and moves with you at the same time.

I hope this helps

Thanks Ecat!! I am seeing my friend in the new year and will chat to her then about what she is looking for. I will also take that for myself as I am wanting to make a boned bodysuit for my gothic fusion performances.

Shimmies!
