Hi all,

I'm studying Fashion Design at University and our latest assignment is with draping on the form and high end street wear (Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garcon, Maddeline Vionnet, etc)
To work out our concepts we played a word association game and then had to randomly draw out 3 of those words to use. The words I pulled out where; Victorian, Fantasy, and Hourglass.
I automatically thought of corsetry, but the tutors warned me not to go for the obvious and to maybe look for a new unique way of incorporating corsetry; she suggested maybe within a jacket or similar.
I have been thinking about the words and am leaning towards momento mori; very victorian and an hourglass represents time and is sometimes connected to the reaper.

Just wondering if anyone wants to through out words to help me brainstorm; or has any cool ideas on how I can wow the tutors with my unique corset, that is still 'street wear'

I have seen over exaggerated hip which looks great. So maybe a jacket with over exaggerated hips and a tails. Have a look at Ageless Patterns. There'd are some jackets there that are stunning that are mean to go over a bustle. Maybe pleats in the jacket with cutwork or embroidery. Matching skirt, tailed with embroidery/cutwork.... Now my brain on overload with ideas!

Draping on the form is how a lot of Victorian dress makers worked so it's ideal to create some wonderful draped pieces with bustle detailing etc- perhaps look at the Natural Form era which was less "extreme" without the cage skirts etc, and achieved through draping alone. This era often had a curiass bodice which was tight fitting, from the hips up, so this could be transferred to modern street wear nicely with a structured, tailored jacket or bodice with a more flamboyant skirt or trousers.
