Hi! I'm Laine and I'm in the states. I am sort of new to corsetry, and this go round I'm trying a latex corset. I've been obsessing over all of your lovely articles and I can draft a pattern, but I have learned so much reading all of these great gems! My question is have any of you made a latex corset and is it possible to put the boning on the seams?

I guess I'll just leave it at that for now!

Cheers!

Wellcome Laine,
Thank you for your question. There is an article about making a latex corset and you may already read it: www.foundationsrevealed.com/articles/cor...-make-a-latex-corset

If you are new to corsetry, my advise is to try to make at least few regular corsets so you can test your pattern and how the things work. To be true I haven't tried it yet but I bet it is a huge project and latex is quite expensive material. Have you already made other latex garments?

Hi Laine,

In addition to the FR article, I know Corsetmakers has had a couple of latex corsets. This tag should have all the posts about latex corsets (and vinyl and PVC).

Good luck, let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks so much for your advice! I have worked with latex before and it is quite temperamental, but I'm excited to try it with regard to corsetry. I've started a muslin dummy so far so I'm going to see if my measurements are still true. I think I may try the 3D pattern method as well just to see how that goes. I have a tendency to try the really ambitious things right off. I'm weird I think. :silly:
I did read that one! This corset will have no busk and no lacing either. I'm not sure how to do the back bit, as it will be sort of akin to a modesty panel... I may put some hook and eye closures or snaps to button it from the inside. I don't know if that makes sense.

I would probably recommend smallish snaps over hook/eye. The lacing will cause a lot of shifting, and hooks may not stay hooked. You can also always suspend the modesty panel on the lacing with loops or eyelets. If you're not familiar with the style let me know and I'll dig up some pictures.

What I'm going for is no lacing or holes. It has a virtually seamless look, with waist reduction. I agree about the snaps. I've been reading some on the boning and trying to figure out placement for the best reduction and seamless ness. I'm a fairly visual person though, so I would love to see the suspended modesty panel :)
