Just a note - I bounced this over from "welcome mat" to "corsets" - it'll be a better home for the topic.

If you don't need to add any space to the center front, I would recommend just putting the busk in as usual, sewing over the seam and all. I used a 'conical' busk (one that flares from top to bottom) for my 1908, and the lower part of the topstitching does cross a seam. It looks fine as is and caused me no trouble.

Hi Theo,
I'm curious what original pattern you are working from, as I suspect that there it may have had a separate busk piece that attached to the fronts. How does the piece fit the client right now? Is the bust shaping in the right place?

Hello All,

So I am working on a corset for a client. (I tend to work from historical images and vintage/reproduction patterns). This particular corset is from the mid 1890's and has quite an interesting construction. More gores and gussets than seams.
My particular question is about the front bust gores and the odd way the side front panel is cut so close to center front that the seem actually over laps the busk.

So here is my questions(s) (see Images parallel white lines at center rep the busk once it is inserted)

1. Should i move it over and try to reshape front (I am afraid this might alter what might be a very unique very curvy shape to the front)?

2. If i don't move it should i fold back the side front seam and edge stitch it or should i leave it unsitched?

If any one has any ideas or experience let me know i am very curious ... since i foresee some issues when it comes to boning it (heavily)

Thanks in advance!
