Welcome! For someone who doesn't make corsets, you've made a very lovely corset, good job!

Hello all,

After reading about all these great articles people have submitted, I finally took the plunge and signed up. I have been aware of the site ever since Cathy first discussed it on her LiveJournal page. I's great to see that the slightly crazy idea turned into yet another success worth all the effort made by all.

I'm much more of a corset wearer than a maker, given that I am often too inpatient to actually finish any sewing projects, but I have decided to give it another shot after my significant other gave me Julia Bremble's E-Book for Christmas.

So far I finished two corsets but I only have pictures of one.

Excuse the dummy pictures, this corset is still in a box in another country at present.
I believe the outer fabric to be chintz, it was a remnant I picked up at a fabric store long gone by now.
I'll definitely need to redo the binding at some stage, it was a last minute job before going out.
The pattern was developed from an Iris Norris corset that was slightly too big for me and had a broken busk.
Being mathematically challenged, what I did was mark some key horizontals, note down the width of each panel at these horizontals and then turn them into percentages, which in turn became the base to re-calculate how wide the patterns had to be to fit me. I then drafted a standard underbust pattern with 6 panels per side based on these new measurements and drew the alterations for the gored version OVER that pattern in red, which made it easier for me to double-check that whatever I sheared off the main panels all ended up in the hip gores.
Amazingly enough, this worked quite well even without a mockup. Definitely a pattern I want to use again and refine in the future!

I am looking forward to being part of this community!
