Hi everyone,
Has anyone got any tips for achieving a uniform stitch length when working ons a corset?
Mostly my stiches are the same length but the odd one varies by up to 2mm which looks hugely different.
I'm using a Husqvarna platinum 755 royal edition, which is a quilters machine. It has speed settings so I've slowed it right down to the slowest setting to see if that makes a difference, and while it is less drastic its still happening, and I don't really want to have to sew so slowly all the time.
I use either size 14 or size 16 needles, and either 1.5 or 2mm stitch length (around13 stitches per inch)
Anything leap out to anyone as a reason for this happening? I can add a picture if anyone needs one.

I'm no machine expert, but it sounds like it might be skipping stitches occasionally. Do you change your needle for every project? That's often recommended when skipping is clearly the problem.

I change at the start and then again about half way through :) does anything else cause skipped stitches (I think pulling thd fabric through does but I don't think I do that)

Are there certain fabrics or combinations of fabrics you're more likely to have trouble with, or is it everything all the time? If it's all the time, you might want to take your machine in for a tune-up and mention what's going on.

If it's just certain fabrics, try to isolate what it is. Maybe your machine just isn't sturdy enough to plow through what you're throwing at it. Maybe some fabrics give it hiccups no matter what else is in the sandwich.

If you stitch reaaaaaaaallllllllllly slowly, does the problem still happen?

Have you googled for reviews of the machine to see if this is a problem other people have had? (The search term "Make Model# reviews" will usually get you plenty.)

Mostly, I would get as much information as you can about the circumstances and breadth of the problem, and then I would call your local sewing machine repair shop. They'll have a much better grasp of what might be going wrong.

Yeah, going really slowly solves it (as in snails pace) so I was doing that for topstitching, but it's so infuriating when I know I could have it done by the time I've done one channel at that pace haha.
I may try a better brand of needles as I do use Korbond and it's only a little more expensive for a good brand. I'm going to try Jeans needles, too, as I have heard they are good for corsetry/ sewing coutil. I have the Anne Ladbury "fabric" book, somewhere, so in theory if I find that it will tell me what thread and needles to use for optimum results :)
Thanks so much for all the help, I think it really is a trial and error thing to see what helps (I've been using the teflon foot on my machine recently to see if that makes a difference)
I do have my machine serviced once every 6 months to make sure it is working well, so that shouldn't ever be the issue.

Getting a sturdy enough needle will probably help a lot. Jeans needles should be much stronger than standard fabric needles.

Good luck! If you figure out a solution that really works, post it here for posterity!
