Hey guys,

I've been trying to make a corset for my partner (at his request, and not my insistence!), but have been having trouble with the lacing at the back.

The problem I am having is that the lacing at the top is getting pulled together because it's not anchored around the torso, if that makes sense? Seen here, sta.sh/0ar657ae4lk and here, sta.sh/02dloxitd2dk
This isn't just making the back look ugly, it's distorting the neckline, shoulders, and armholes.
I'm sure corset vests with lacing right the way up can be done, but I just can't seem to find any decent pictures of the back of one to try and figure it out.

Any ideas?

It is on a site from a french corsetiere. The vest corset seems to work perfectly on the body, but it is a made to measure corset.

Romantasy sells something called the Corvest. Some pictures are here. So, it is possible to have nape to bottom back lacing---but I can't figure out how it's done. Luckily, you have a test subject for your experiments.

Just a suggestion for an alternative lacing method.

The Camp Lacing System. Its actually the name of the gent who developed it. Mr S.H.Camp, I have used this method for a small group of corsets I made for some ladies who needed to be able to self lace fast and efficiently. I have to say it worked out well and the fan effect also looked neat with no ugly bows from yards of corset lace. I did think of using it for a male corset but that will be a project further down the road.

I don't know if this helps but it may ease the fitting problem you mentioned.

I think what you need to do is take a look at how the fabric is responding to the lacing. By this I mean, you've got too much fabric in one place, and too little in another, but the problem is not caused by the lacing, its the shape of the back edge, its straight and it should be curved.

Try taking a marker and drawing on the back where you want the laced edges to be, the pattern has a straight back edge, but his upper back has a narrower width than the mid back, so you need less width there in the vest. Once you have the back fitting right, then redraw the neck and armscye to fit properly.

You might also try using a different lacing pattern, more like a corset and less like shoes.
