Top stitching the seam allowances down does help a great deal, and lets you cut off the excess allowance beyond the top stitching. You can also trim them and cover them with bone casing, which will help smooth and conceal any buckling.

Hi :)

Even with 1/4'' it's still likely to buckle a little - do you topstich your seams? I find if they're topstitched, it reduces the buckling.

Also try ironing the curved bits on a tailors ham, it makes a huge difference! (tailors hams are fairly cheap to buy or very easy to make).

I hope this is of some help :)

Hello All,
I am working on my 3rd corset and as I am a very sporadic corset maker I just can't remember how to address this issue. I have trimmed the seam allowances to 1/2 inch. On the interior curves the seam allowances buckle when ironed flat. I don't want this to show from the outside but I am afraid to cut into them as I would regular garment curves. (cutting out several Vs around the curved part). Is that actually the correct solution or should I trim the seams to 1/4 inch? Maybe I have too much of a curve in the bust area. What do you suggest?
Thanks!
