Hi :) welcome to the forum

I'm in a similar line of work - support worker for adults with learning difficulties. A lot of teaching and patience involved, and don't get me started on the politics! I love that you started a business, I'd love to do that some day, when I'm better at corsetry. But it is quite a scary prospect. I'd recommend this "the big secret of self-employment" if you're thinking of doing it again. It's an article by Cathy Hay about starting a sewing business.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for having me here!
I'm originally from Birmingham, UK but moved North East for lurrrve! I have been making corsets since I was about 24, when I went on a course with Alison Smith's School of Sewing in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. I was very much into the goth scene and wanted to make my own corsets. I was working at Sally Bee - a well know wedding dress manufacturer in Birmingham - at the time and started making corsets and wedding dresses for friends and friends of friends. I started to get customers!! Some as far away as Holland...
Then.... someone persuaded me that this wouldn't afford me a living and that I needed a proper job. So I ended up in teaching. I teach primary aged children with specific language impairment and other, related, difficulties. I love my job but I HATE the politics and the hierarchical nature of school management. Little Hitlers! I also detest Michael Gove but that's another story! I am unfulfilled and frustrated by the system and so decided to engage with my sewing machine again. Now, I want to stretch myself and enjoy what I love. Who knows where it will take me this time, but being here is lovely and I look forward to talking to like-minded creative people...
