I agree with May, shouldn't be an issue. Remember that boning is quite flat and not rough, so it's not going to poke through or scratch. The reason it wears through weaker fabric is the tension of the fabric over the hardness of the bone, not any sharpness.

I said I was suspicious... didn't I?

It turned out there is some bunching and wrinkling in the low back (never trust a husband for a fitting!), so I'm trying to fix it, I'm also taking in a bit under the breast because, when I tried it with the bones, I didn't like the way it squished my bust.

Now I'm waiting for a spiral wire order to do the final fitting: would you like me to post a photo of the mock-up?

Here you are some photos of the mock-up: I've made some alterations on the hip panel tacking it in on the belly, I've added a little ease to the back panel (trying to solve the bunching and wrinkling issue) and I've modified the bust fit to obtain a little of a push-up effect.
I also took the waist in a little and I'm wodering if a should take in some more... I'm not all that interested in great waist reduction, but this corset is really very confortable, so maybe I could reduce the waist a bit more.

As you can see I used a long sturdy zip to close the mock up and added two bone casings on the front to make up for the absence of the busk.

I must confess that I'm a bit ashamed to post these pictures, since I see only beautiful mock-ups around here: mines are a mess! I write on them, use leftover threads and so on.... sorry

Every critic/suggestion is welcome!

Wow, this is going to be beautiful corset, I think when you made the right thing the wrinkling will disappear.
You have asked for suggestions.
My personal suggestion (what I would do) is I would add about an inch to the back and the side length on the top. To me it seems just a bit too short under the arms and at the back. Or you wanted to show your tattoo? :)

Actually, rather than taking out in the bust I think you should add about half an inch per side - maybe three-quarters (or 1-2cm if you're metric). Start a little below where things start being really squashed and flare to about half an inch below the top edge. Removing below the bust isn't going to give you more space, which is what relieves squish.

The back waist is a little wrinkly, but it's hard to tell if that's a product of too few bones or poor fit. You could let out the back hip a bit and see if that helps things - if not, the fabric just needs a bit more support. If letting out helps, then the back was riding up your hip because it didn't have enough space.

The upper back looks lovely and smooth, very nicely done!

This style of corset is meant to cup the belly, rather than flatten it. There's really no two ways around that.

Also, on your pictures: whatever. Mine are uglier, and they're going to be in a published article about a month from now. So no shame there! As long as it gets the job done, is what I say.
